METAV 2010: Organizers can be pleased
"Full halls, with customers in more of a mood to invest”. This was the assessment the Association of German Machine Tool Manufacturers (VDW – Verein Deutscher Werkzeugmaschinenfabriken) gave in a current press release to METAV 2010. VDW, organizers of the exhibition, explained that many of the exhibitors had confirmed that, after the long months when customers were extremely reluctant to buy, they were surprised by the crowds of visitors and the large number of concrete discussions about projects and investment plans.
In the light of the year of economic crisis in 2009, it was already obvious what the central question of the exhibition was going to be: would the small market recovery described recently be felt at the first large event for this sector in the current year? The answer, quite clearly, was "yes". After all, 80 percent of visitors, when surveyed before the exhibition, said that they wanted to invest in production equipment over the coming twelve months – a clear signal which, according to the VDW, was also then heard by the exhibitors. Company representatives reported an increased demand for machine tools and for a wide range of services.

Performance demonstrated
Taking "High-performance tools at work" as a motto, LMT demonstrated the latest tool developments – from tooth cutting, rolling, milling, turning, reaming and thread forming through to clamping – on the exhibition stand of performance partner DMG. "This context allowed us to show our tool technology to visitors directly at work and to prove just what we are capable of" explained Alessandro Telesio, general manager of the LMT’s distribution and sales company, Tool Systems.
