Every cutting factor at a glance
Accurate dimensions, reliable processes, high productivity and optimum surface quality – these are the most important keywords for cutting cast-iron, nonferrous metals and other hard-to-cut materials. To be sure of achieving these quality characteristics, the experts at the LMT group must keep an eye on a range of factors: the type of carbide or high-speed steel used for the cutter, the tool geometry and its modified coating.
The specialist engineers combine their expertise for this job. Take the preparation of cutter edges as an example: it must always be matched to each specific application. This is not just a matter of the cutter radius, but of the entire micro-geometry.
There is also an interplay between the cutting edge and the coating. But all the research products carried out at LMT have one target: every new tool for face milling, water jet machining, profile milling, spiral milling, circular milling or form milling must be better than its predecessor.
