How do you define efficiency in production? What challenges are you facing as a result of changes in materials? Are you fully exploiting the potential of optimized tool logistics? LMT TOOLS combines the expertise of leading specialists and delivers tool solutions that will enable you to achieve sustainable competitive advantages.
CLAMPING SYSTEMS FOR EVERY APPLICATION
Tool systems for clamping cutters or drills to a machine are used all around the world in many fields of application and on almost every type of machine. High-end devices for fully automatic shrinking and pre-setting tools are used, as are smaller, mobile stations. The clamping systems from LMT's group partner Bilz are used by very different customers from the automobile and machine tool sectors, for instance. The latest example of the history of innovations involved here is the SCK synchro-chuck. It not only permits compensation for synchronization errors when thread tapping, but can also be used in many other different applications. This of course allows users who previously required different clamping chucks to save procurement costs.
THREAD ROLLING IN SECONDS
Chipless thread fabrication with a thread rolling head has a whole range of advantages: the finished surfaces are smooth and have increased strength; the material fibers remain unbroken. Because no chips are created, rolling naturally saves on material. Almost all standardized or special threads – from cylindrical and tapered triangular threads, through trapezoidal, round and semi-round threads to cylindrical wood threads and even buttress threads – can be rolled with a thread rolling head.
SPECIAL TOOLS FOR ALL TOOTH-CUTTING TASKS
In addition to the standard range of tools, LMT FETTE develops and makes special tools and gear hubs for an extremely wide range of tooth-cutting applications. The use to which the tool is put always of course takes centre stage – decisions about the shape, dimensions, degree of precision and material are made jointly with the customer. The tool can, however, also be made according to existing design drawings.
YOU CAN'T ASK FOR MORE ACCURACY
The concentricity of the clamped tool – that is the central advantage of thermal clamping with a shrink chuck.
The hole in the chuck is only a tiny bit smaller than the diameter of the cutter shaft. When heated, the chuck expands and the tool can be inserted. When it has cooled down again, the chuck grips the tool with great precision.
Bilz has developed this method further in a range of products.
GOOD HOLE FINISH MAINTAINED
The clamping equipment is of particular importance to reaming tools: if the tool is to fulfill its task – precision machining of the hole – the axis of the tool and the pre-machined hole must be aligned perfectly. But if a misalignment occurs after a number of clamping operations during the machining, and the tool is located over the workpiece with a small displacement, it is necessary to compensate for this – with a floating chuck. A whole range of factors play a part here.
ALL KINDS OF TOOL CLAMPED QUICKLY
LMT has quick-change chucks available for practically every kind of tool, from drilling, countersinking and reaming through to thread tapping – with quite different qualities, matched to each particular application. Internal coolant supply, easy length compensation or optimum force compensation are just a few of the important topics involved here.
MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY: CLAMPING DEVICE BRINGS A LEAP FORWARD IN PERFORMANCE
Implants and supports in the vertebrae are helping more and more patients to overcome one of the most widespread disorders: back pain. But the construction of the prostheses for this delicate part of the body is not easy. They must withstand very high stresses and must continue to function faultlessly for a long time. A large number of these high-tech implants are created at Ulrich Medical in Ulm. The medical technology experts rely on TER collet chucks from LMT's alliance partner Bilz for machining vertebral supports from the extremely strong titanium alloy Ti6Al4V. With success: the clamp significantly lowers tool costs, and production is more effective.
LMT TOOL MANAGEMENT: 100% COST CONTROL
A great deal depends on effective tool management. It can increase the overall performance of the production process while also significantly reducing tool costs. However, improving or developing a brand new tool logistics system is a complex matter. That is why, if desired, LMT tool managers will accompany this process through a number of different phases and levels. The foundation and decisive prerequisite for the success of this work is a 100% partnership with the customer.
ALL-ROUND SUPPLIES FOR THE AUTOMOBILE INDUSTRY
The complexity of mass production in the automotive sector is illustrated by the example of a central component in modern diesel engines: the common rail distributor pipe. About 20 different cutting and drilling tools are necessary just for the cutting processes needed for its manufacture. In order to be able to guarantee the quality of these and other mass-produced components used in automobile production, LMT's experts look at the various manufacturing processes as a whole. They are specialized in customers' products, and use the know-how accumulated through extensive practical experience.
