New CPKT Cutting Insert with Chipbreaker for Efficient Fine Machining of Long-Chipping Materials
Lahr, September 2, 2024 - Tool expert LMT Tools has added a press-to-size indexable insert with chipbreaker to its successful FinishLine Premium universal milling system for pre-finishing and finishing. The new CPKT cutting insert enables efficient machining of long-chipping materials with good surface quality and maximum process reliability. An economical solution for die and mould making.
With the FinishLine Premium universal milling system, LMT Tools offers a high-precision tool solution for pre-finishing and finishing. The milling cutter with exchangeable indexable inserts stands for perfect surfaces in grinding quality, easy handling without presetting, reduced production times and maximum process reliability and is considered the ultimate solution for efficient fine machining in die and mould making. A new addition to the programme is a CPKT cutting insert with wiper geometry and chipbreaker. The combination of sintered geometry and the resulting improved chip control offers high cost-effectiveness and extends the range of applications to additional materials.
FinishLine Premium: Guarantee for the Best Surface Qualities
The FinishLine Premium series is based on a high-precision carrier tool whose insert seats are manufactured with micrometre precision - especially in the axial direction - and whose inserts are designed in tolerance class H. Additional precision is provided by the wiper geometries, which produce significantly lower roughness than other indexable insert designs at the same or higher feed rates.
New: Press-To-Size Indexable Insert with Chipbreaker
The new CPKT cutting insert is a press-to-size design with maximum precision and durability. The special topography with chipbreaker is optimized for machining material classes ISO-P and ISO-M. This means that even long-chipping materials such as unalloyed structural steels or rust- and acid-resistant materials can be machined efficiently. The cutting edge is very stable because of the sintering process and achieves good surfaces. Infeeds of up to (over) 1 mm are possible. The highly wear-resistant carbide grade with Nanomold Black coating, which has proven itself in die and mould making, allows universal use in dry and wet machining.
Economical Mixed Assembly: One Cutting Edge Produces the Surface
A special highlight is the mixed tooling. For example, a five-edged tool can be fitted with one ground and four sintered inserts. As the CPKT inserts are a few thousandths of a millimetre smaller, the ground insert protrudes by approx. 0.02 mm and thus acts as a smoothing cutter to produce the desired surface. The four press-to-size indexable inserts are used for pre-finishing. This mixed assembly enables a higher cutting speed and significantly increases the tool life with excellent surface quality (tolerance class H). This advantage can be seen, for example, in mould making when machining cast frame parts.
High Productivity and Surface Quality
“With FinishLine Premium, we offer a powerful, flexible and simple tool system for reliable finishing processes with the best surface qualities. It is suitable for copy, shoulder and face milling and does not need to be preset. The inserts can be changed directly on the machine”, says Hanjo Gissler, Product Manager Milling at LMT Tools, emphasizing the advantages of the FinishLine Premium and adds: “The new sintered CPKT cutting insert with chip breaker opens up the milling system for machining long-chipping materials and increases productivity while maintaining a good surface finish.”
