Solutions for Foam machining
What is foam?
The simplest way to categorise foam is based on its cell structure, which determines its key properties and applications:
Open-Cell Foam:
- Structure: The cells are interconnected and open, allowing air and moisture to pass through.
- Characteristics: Soft, flexible, breathable, absorbent.
- Common Uses: Mattresses, cushions, acoustic panels, packaging.
Closed-Cell Foam:
- Structure: The cells are sealed and not interconnected, creating a solid barrier.
- Characteristics: Dense, rigid, water-resistant, more durable.
- Common Uses: Insulation, protective packaging, buoyancy aids, outdoor gear.
The finish requirement in foam (insulation may not need as clean a finish as protective packaging) will guide your cutter choice. Here you will find our standard upcut tools for machining foam.
If you require a higher quality finish or need to achieve a better surface finish in the pocket of a material, check out our universal 52-700 series and 60-200 series.
