LMT Tools and PWS Combine Expertise

LMT Tools is one of the most renowned experts in the development and production of precision tools, known for its innovative technologies, forward-thinking tool concepts, and continuous advancement. By expanding its product and service portfolio with the addition of PWS from Schmölln, the company has reached another milestone in gear technology. As of December 20, 2024, the LMT Tools Group has acquired the know-how and expertise of PWS Präzisionswerkzeuge Schmölln GmbH in the areas of skiving tools, hobbing cutters, and associated services as part of the ongoing insolvency proceedings.

Consolidated Know-How in Gear Technology

“By integrating PWS’s expertise, we strengthen our shared goal of advancing precision, efficiency, and customer satisfaction worldwide,” said Jörn Grindel, Head of Global Product Line at LMT Tools. Raphael Lienau, Head of Global R&D, added: “We are excited to integrate the core areas of manufacturing technology and tool design from PWS into our company. Additionally, eight experienced employees from the sales, engineering/design, and application technology departments will also join us, ensuring that the valuable direct contact with trusted customer representatives is maintained.”

The 75 years of experience at PWS meets over 100 years of expertise at LMT Tools in the development and production of gear tools. Both companies share a passion for solving customer-specific gear challenges through self-developed and innovative design and production technologies. They also have a history of successful joint projects, providing a perfect foundation for a successful future.

Expanded Product Competence

As part of the integration, a new technology center will be established in Schmölln, seamlessly embedded into LMT Tools' workflows. Under the motto “PWS powered by LMT Fette,” the traditional brands combine their strengths to continue delivering innovative and customer-specific tool solutions at the highest level. The product portfolio of LMT Tools is also expanding to include new application areas. It now encompasses tools for gear skiving with modules ranging from 0.5 to 8.0 and diameters from 15 to 270 mm, as well as gear hobbing tools with modules from 0.7 to 12 and diameters from 12 to 315 mm.
