With XChange from LMT Fette, with its patented interface, for the fi rst time it has been possible to combine the advantages of carbide and steel in a modular tap. With XChange two physically prohibitive properties have been combined: The solid-carbide threaded head, a combination of ultra-fine grain carbide and high performance coating, is providing maximum tool life and high cutting speeds. The flexible steel shank guarantees the stability of the tool and offers extra effiency.
XChange is suitable for all short-chipping materials, particularly cast iron, brass and AlSi alloys.

One of our customers is a supplier to the automotive industry and manufactures components for brakes made of nodular cast iron GGG-60. For the production of MF 18x1.5 threads he used a standard HSS tap. With a cutting speed of 30m/min he achieved a tool life of around 9500 threads.
After replacing the HSS tap with the XChange, our customer achieved an increase in tool life that he would not have thought possible. With a cutting speed of 40m/min he can now produce up top 225,000 threads before replacing the thread head of the XChange. Our customer now saves 25% of production costs.
XChange tap possesses a highly accurate interface, in order to guarantee the flawless and repeatable changeability. Due to the precision ground and self-centering Hirth serration, the carbide heads can be mounted to the shank with high positional accuracy. With this the modularity of XChange is given.
The XChange with a radial coolant outlet is ideally suited for through hole threads and with an axial coolant outlet for blind hole threads.
