Economical shoulder milling
in steel and cast iron
The MultiEdge T90 PRO8 tangential insert milling system is specially designed for roughing and semi-finishing operations in steel and cast iron. The program includes carriers in the range of 50 to 160mm and inserts with cutting depths up to 10mm for machining steel (ISO-P materials) and cast iron (ISO-K materials), and now also stainless steels (ISO-M materials). The directly pressed tangential indexable inserts of the MultiEdge T90 PRO8 have 8 cutting edges, so that a high degree of efficiency with maximum process reliability is guaranteed.
Success Story:
80% less machining time
A customer from the shipbuilding industry, who manufactures large steel components, previously used a competitor's tool system for corner milling. For the machining of a ship's cone, the aim was to optimize the machining time and thus reduce the overall manufacturing costs. With the MultiEdge T90 PRO8, the machining time was reduced by around 80% from 24 minutes to just 5 minutes per component.
The simultaneous increase in tool life per cutting edge from two to ten components also results in enormous cost savings, as additional machine capacity is freed up that can be used for other jobs.
Your advantages
at a glance
- Enormous achievable material removal rates enable cost savings through cycle time reduction
- Tangential mounting position of the inserts ensures high process reliability
- Positive rake angle of the inserts guarantees long tool life of the cutting edges and thus has a positive effect on tool costs
Soft cutting and process reliable:
cutting grades and geometries
With a wide range of inserts, the shoulder milling cutter MultiEdge T90 PRO8 is perfectly suited to applications in steel, cast iron and stainless steel. The directly pressed indexable inserts with 8 effective cutting edges guarantee maximum economy.
A uniform insert geometry is available for all versions: The insert with a negative protective chamfer (ER geometry) is characterized by a particularly stable cutting edge. With this soft cutting insert geometry, cutting forces are significantly reduced, thus counteracting the occurrence of vibrations. The tangential installation position of the inserts also ensures a high level of process reliability.
