Plastic And Solid Surface
What is plastic and solid surface?
We talk about plastic in three different ways
- Thermosetting (Hard Plastic)
- Thermoplastic (Soft Plastic)
- Fiber Reinforced (See Composites)
Hard Plastic (HP) and Soft Plastic (SP) machine in completely different ways. Soft plastic creates a natural chip form (Swarf) in a curl shape. Hard Plastic creates a natural chip form in blocks or a loose curl.
Solid surface is a man-made type of composite material which in most instances has a acrylic resin binder. This is why a large number of tools can machine both plastic and solid surface materials. In the Universal tool section the 52-700, 65-000, 64-000 series also offer a suitable tooling option.
See below our wide range of tools to suit your plastic application needs!

Plastic Upcut
Allows for excellent chip evacuation pulling the chips away from the workpiece.

Plastic Downcut
Designed to offer extra part hold down when machining small parts or reduced vacuum.

Plastic Drill
Used to create a through hole or blind hole in the material to achieve a desired hole size.

Plastic Engrave, Trim, Chamfer
Tools designed for operations which a standard router tool cannot complete.
